In January 2022, I had the pleasure of interviewing for a design and trend forecasting role for the International Garment Group. This project consisted on handling the design process from start to finish and generating a CAD line up for presentation at Interview.
Design Brief
1. Find one micro trend for SS22 - create a trend mood board with imagery from catwalk, and from any other sources you see fit, and complete with supporting colour palette.
2. Design a capsule collection of 8-10 womenswear outfits for a young fashion customer aged 21-28. Consisting of mostly jersey based designs. Try to include MOST of the following: jersey dress, jersey sweater, top & jogger set, graphic t-shirt, woven top, woven dress, woven trousers. Display these designs as a flat drawing and as an overview/line-up. You may choose to keep the CAD uncoloured, if you do so, please provide at least one example of a fully coloured CAD.
3. After the line up is complete, please choose one of these designs and make a technical pack. Please include fabrication, colour and trims. (You do not need to include measurements and a specification, however please draw a line on the CAD where measurements would normally be taken and shown in the tech pack.

I DO NOT OWN COPYRIGHT TO THE COMPANY'S LOGO (USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY)
The Book
For anyone who has seen the film "The Devil Wears Prada", I am sure you are aware of the concept of "The Book". I find this is the best way for me to start the process for any design element as it is good to see what is relevant and currently represented in the media as this gives a good foundation on estimating what may be popular in the near future.
Analysis of "The Book"
I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHT TO ANY OF THE IMAGES IN THE BOOK, THEY ARE THE PROPERTY OF THE DESIGNER/BRAND. THEY ARE USED FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY.
After generating the book, I picked out key aspects of the research that I thought would be relevant to the forecasting and generation of the project. Please see attached video.
Moodboard
From the research, I pursued a bright colour palette and generated the theme of "Urban Marble", combining both the colour and the prints that have been prominent in the trend research.

Digital Sketchbook
Then I moved on to collating the ideas that I had summarised from the book and started pulling together the re-occurring trends. This collated research resulted in the Digital Sketchbook (as seen below).
The digital sketchbook covers the research and design process, trend analysis, initial sketches and development in both print and fabric.
Urban Marble Tech Pack
As the design brief stated, I needed to choose one of the designs that I created and create an example tech pack for this item. Please see below.
CAD Video Logs
During the generation of the designs, I screen-recorded the CAD element of the process and detail through the below videos the generation of all 7 outfits from start to finish.
